I’ve written many times over the years about the Citi Rewards+ card. The information related to the Citi Rewards+ has been collected by DansDeals and has not been reviewed or provided by the issuer or provider of this product or service.
It has no annual fee, and offers 2 incredible benefits.
It rounds up all purchases to the nearest 10 points. Currently, Amazon account reloads require a $5 minimum, but back when Amazon allowed for account reloads of any amount, that was incredibly valuable. It still is valuable for small purchases.
And it offers a 10% points rebate on redemptions. That meant if you had a Citi Double Cash® Card, you could cash out your spending done with 2% earnings everywhere, and get 10% of the points rebated back into your account. Citi is a DansDeals partner. View Rates & Fees here.
Or if you had a Citi Strata Premier℠ Card you could transfer points into miles at a 1:1 (or better) ratio and get 10% of them rebated back into your account. View Rates & Fees here.
Personally, I have all of those cards and loved taking advantage of that. Earlier this month I flew United First Class from Cleveland to Fort Lauderdale for just 13.5K points by transferring 15K Citi points to Turkish Airlines and getting a 10% points rebate.
Alas, the Citi Rewards+ Card is being rebranded as the Citi Strata card.
That card will remove the 10 point round-up benefit and the 10% points rebate.
Citi tells DansDeals that existing cardholders will be automatically converted to Citi Strata on July 20th, though you won’t get a new card until your current card expires.
Citi writes that, “If the customer opened their Rewards+ card from July 20, 2024 through July 19, 2025, they will continue to have access to Round Up (which rounds to the nearest 10 points on every purchase) and 10% Points Back (on the first 100K ThankYou Points redeemed per year) until July 19, 2026. For customers that opened their Rewards+ card before July 20, 2024, the Round Up and 10% Points Back features will no longer be available as of July 20, 2025 when the new Citi Strata Card benefits go into effect.”
The Rewards+ card is no longer available for new customers, but you might be able to convert another Citi card into a Rewards+ card by calling the number on the back of your card. That should provide the Round Up and Points Back benefits until 7/19/26.
The Strata card will be available for new cardholders in the coming months. It will have no annual fee.
So, what will Strata provide?
-
5x points on Hotels, Car Rentals, and Attractions booked on Citi Travel.
-
3x points at Supermarkets
-
3x points on Select Transit and at Gas and EV Charging Stations
-
3x points on an eligible Self-Select Category of your choice. Eligible categories include Fitness Clubs, Select Streaming Services, Live Entertainment, Cosmetic Stores/Barber Shops/Hair Salons, or Pet Supply Stores.
-
2x points at Restaurants
-
1x points on All Other Purchases
If you have the Strata Premier card, you already earn 10 points per dollar Hotels, Car Rentals, and Attractions booked on Citi Travel, 3 points on supermarkets, 3 points on Gas and EV Charging Stations, 3 points on dining, and more.
The advantage of Strata over Strata Premier will be earning 3 points per dollar on Select Transit, as well as the self-select category of your choice. You can switch your category one time per quarter in your account or by calling Citi, and the change will take effect the following day. If you don’t select a category, Select Streaming Services will be the default category.
There are no earnings caps for any category.
Overall, this will be pretty disappointing for most people. The self-select category bonus is enticing, but it comes at a high price with the loss of the round-up and points rebate feature.
Then again, if you didn’t take full advantage of the Rewards+ perks, you may find the new bonus category more useful.
Expect a refresh of the premium Citi Prestige Card into the Citi Strata Elite Card next…

So what adavnatge does the premier offer for the $95 AF besides transferring over points?
3x airfare from airlines or agencies.
3x hotels from airlines or agencies.
3x dining.
10x Hotel, Car Rentals, and Attractions booked through Citi Travel
$100 off $500 Citi Travel hotels annually.
No Forex fees.
Mileage transfers.
Will new cardholders earn the 3x and also round up? Or only the old benefits
Both.
How about I switch from rewards + to double cash then switch back to rewards+ will I get the 10x until 2026?
Not sure if they will allow it, but try and let us know.
I give $1 swipes to people who come in Shul with CC machines. and use this card in general only for Maaser.
Raked up 40K points this year on 4K spend.
I think you should give the 40K points to Masser its there investment…
Does the collector end up with 65¢ after merchant fees? If so, you would both come out ahead by just giving three quarters.
Can you just waste maaser money like that?
The loss of the unique benefits of the Rewards+ makes me worry about losing the 4th night free on the Prestige.
Will being converted to the Strata prevent you from getting a SUB on the Premier?
Just called Citi, one CANNOT product change to Rewards+ anymore.
is there a wat to get citi to down grade card even if i have card 4 less then year?
Just had Citi shut down my card for non payment. Seems like a glitch with their system since I’ve been paying it with the same bank account for years and they’re claiming my payments were returned. Any idea how to get to English speaking customer service?
I’d like to know if they will keep the TWO year warranty extension on warranties up to FIVE years. THAT was the best perk of this card.
A sad end to the meshulachim card…the ani does more for the Baal habayis than the Baal habayis for the ani
The amount of money wasted because “its anyways maaser” or the raffles where half of the money is going to the prize – people dont care – the givers cause its maaser and the org. cause its free money… Imagine people wouldn’t give maaser maybe they would actually care where their money is going
Aha. Since when does giving to poor people from E”Y qualify for a prize?
And why is that wasting one’s maaser?
Perhaps you should actually read what you comment on.
When you swipe a dollar of masser money exactly how much of it is going to the poor person? If you would have to cover (and not get any mitzva) out of your own pocket -(not masser) the loss of the swipe vs cash would you still continue to swipe.
I know there is no prize for the poor people from E”Y my point was its the same problem people have no regard to masser money – it gets wasted – they would never waste all this money if it wouldn’t be masser and if there was no mitzva involved in the wasted money..
Good of you to respond. The shluchei mitzvah receive 96.5 cents on the dollar.
Do you they would have a net gain if people only gave dollars?
Nobody has cash or wants to break larger bills these days; welcome to 2025.
And I give them without a cheshbon of maaser, thank you very much.
What are my options to downgrade from the premier?
