Some 8 years ago Hilton followed Delta in deleting their award chart. At the time they said it was not a devaluation as they would cap standard rooms in their most expensive redemptions at 95K points. Their previous massive devaluation came in 2013, back when you could book top-tier properties for as low as 37.5K points per night. Boy how times have changed.
6 years ago they raised the cap for standard rooms from 95K points per night to 120K points per night when the Waldorf Astoria Maldives launched. The Waldorf Astoria Cabo soon joined at that level.
4 years ago, that cap went up to 150K points per night for standard rooms.
And now it has gone up to a whopping 200K points per night for standard rooms.
The Waldorf Astoria Jerusalem, which opened at 80K points per night, last went up to 95K points per night in 2016. It will now cost 100K points per night for standard rooms. Elites and cardholders still get the 5th night free, so on a 5 night award it will now cost 80K points per night.
Sample overnight devaluations:
- Waldorf Astoria Jerusalem: Was 95K, now 100K
-
The Inn at English Harbour, Antigua & Barbuda: Was 105K, now 120K
- Hilton Maldives Amingiri Resort & Spa: Was 110K, now 130K
-
Conrad Maldives Rangali Island: Was 120K, now 140K
- Eichardt’s Private Hotel Queenstown, NZ: Was 130K, now 170K
- Huvafen Fushi Maldives: Was 150K, now 160K
- Milaidhoo Maldives: Was 150K, now 170K
- South Bank, Turks and Caicos: Was 130K, now 180K
- Waldorf Astoria Los Cabos Pedregal: Was 140K, now 190K
- Waldorf Astoria Maldives Ithaafushi: Was 150K, now 200K
Earn and burn, and keep points as bank points and not stored with airlines and hotels, where they can be devalued without notice; it’s the name of the game.
On the other hand, I suppose this makes Hilton card free night awards more valuable…

the annual fee for the Hiton AMEX cards is very high and now that there are no more Hilton gift cards for sale to help offset the annual fee, and the points are now devalued, this all makes the Hilton AMEX credit cards extremely unattractive.
Still worth it when you can grab a room that goes for north of $1K but the Aspire’s AF is $550
The Waldorf receptions are insane. You can get better value at the TA Hilton. Especially with the 5th night free and the lounge there.
No “Ouch” in the title?
Wicked!
Just a matter of time till they cap FNC
I hate to say it but they can’t stand the fact that churners are stying at these hotels/resorts where they go for thousands a night especially since they acquired SLH
Also @Dan add Hermitage Bay in Antigua is now 190K
A little off topic question is, if I have I room booked as a standard using points but now shows no available standard rooms, can I still switch out the room using a FNC?
I have been dreaming of hermitage bay for a long time. Looks like it might have to stay a dream now..
I just got it recently for three nights in November using 2 FNC and 1 using points. I now have another FNC and was wondering if they”ll let me switch it out.
Hermitage Bay looks great but unfortunately can’t eat any of the food since we’re kosher
5k bump on waj I can live with. It could have been worse. From your headline I thought it was going to be like 150k for standard…
Maliouhana Resort Anguilla. Was 130k. Now 150k
Koi Resort St Kitts. Was 40k. Now 52k
What is new rate for Hilton TA?
90K
Right after attractive subs, gross!
i dont think Maldives properties should be on the sample list.
i see some hotels in SE Asia went up from 20K to 45K 🙁
For the last ten years I stay at the Waldorf Jerusalem at lease once a year on points and make sure I get one to two free nights (I stay 5-10 days). I like the location and the rooms are very nice sized. They also have an amazing spa! The hotel is not what it used to be. The shabbos food is over priced and not as good as it used to be. Many guests prefer going to the Leonardo for Shabbos meals. The daily breakfast is very nice. The hotel needs to be freshened up. The dining room chairs upholstery were dirty and stained. The carpets, the same. The all around cleanliness also needs upgrading. Dan, what is your opinion?
Having stayed there multiple times I agree with you assessment. How have you found so much reward availability?
Agree, it has not been kept up to what it used to be unfortunately.
And the Shabbos meals have been very subpar and overpriced in recent years.
There supposedly in the middle of a refresh on rooms now..
the worst is the waldorf hilton–no $100000 single nights available thru march so i can;t even use my free night award on a $550 credit card
Brutal!! I was eyeing the south bank one in Turks and Caicos for a while it was an unbelievable value at 130k
They should just rename the program “Hilton Dishonors” and call it a day. Truth in advertising, at least.
The only plus is if there’s more availability now that they went up at least free nights will work and the points, on Hilton site it says there doing soft updates on waldorf Jerusalem
Its probably coming after they dished out massive subs so their currency is inflated..
Which means that not necessarily will there be more available nights
I hate to say it, but the big hotel chain loyalty programs are becoming a bit of a scam. Even for people clever enough to play the points game, it’s become too many points for an award stay. I can’t even imagine trying to gin up enough Hilton points “organically” from actual hotel stays. IHG has also recently devalued. Only the Hyatt program seems to still have some value, but most of their good US have become quite expensive on points.
can you use free night certificates to book waldorf if it is more then 120k points./
Only fog standard so for waj it’s 100k
Thanks to all the “influencers” shining a light on redemptions
When does this go into effect, or did it happen already?
You think they were nice enough to give you a warning…
